A Proven Renault Master Off-Grid Campervan
Meet Claude, a 2021 Renault Master Long Wheelbase built for comfortable, independent travel throughout the year.
Originally intended as a long-term vehicle, Claude is now being offered for sale following a change in circumstances. Having already travelled from the Arctic Circle in winter to the South of France in summer, this Renault Master off-grid campervan has been thoroughly tried and tested.
The 2.3-litre, 134bhp diesel engine and gearbox are in great condition, while cruise control, air conditioning and an included sat nav make longer journeys more comfortable.
With a 90-litre fuel tank, 7m length, 2.1m width and 3.5-tonne total weight, Claude is well suited to European road trips, off-grid adventures and longer-term travel.
The oil and filters were changed at the beginning of the summer, with approximately 10,000 miles remaining before the next service. The MOT is not due until the end of November.
Built for All Seasons
Claude performed well on a trip to the Arctic Circle in winter, remaining warm inside and unfrozen despite the conditions.
It has also travelled to the South of France, where it remained comfortable in temperatures reaching 40°C. The insulation helps keep the heat out, while the MaxxFan provides a cool breeze through the night.
The front cab has two captain’s seats, both with armrests on either side. Smart black Rogue alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin Agilis CrossClimate tyres, offering all-weather capability and a three-peak mountain snowflake rating for winter conditions.
Fixed Double Bed & Spacious Interior
Claude has a full-size fixed double bed with a standard double IKEA mattress and slatted frame. No need to convert the seating area into a bed each night.
A secure ventilating window beside the bed provides airflow, while the ceiling-mounted MaxxFan can be controlled remotely from bed. A conveniently positioned light switch and pegboard provide space for a phone, glasses, books or a morning cup of tea.
The bed lifts on damper hinges like an Ottoman, revealing substantial storage underneath.
The central living area features a large corner sofa with quality upholstery and a folding table. It provides a comfortable space for eating, working or relaxing and can be folded away when more floor space is needed.
The sofa can also comfortably accommodate an additional child.
Kitchen & Storage
The kitchen is designed for practical day-to-day use, with plenty of storage in the drawers and cupboards. All drawers lock securely for travel and feature soft-close mechanisms when parked.
Cooking is completely gas-free, with two induction hobs and space for an air fryer (which can be supplied) beneath the fridge. The electrical system is sized to run the induction hobs and air fryer at the same time, with spare capacity.
A Thetford T2160 compressor fridge/freezer provides 158 litres of storage, giving you plenty of room for fresh food and supplies.
The large, deep kitchen sink has a shower-style tap, making it practical for washing larger pans and dishes.
There is also generous storage throughout the van, including 343 litres of over-cab clothing storage, additional kitchen lockers, under-bench shoe storage and a floor-bolted safe large enough for laptops, tablets, drones and important documents.
The spacious garage provides versatile storage for bikes, paddleboards, BBQ equipment, hiking gear and other outdoor equipment.
Full-Height Wet Room
The full-height shower forms part of a practical wet-room measuring 68cm x 180cm.
The shower provides good pressure while using relatively little water. When not in use, the wet-room can also be used to hang wet hiking gear, wetsuits and other equipment behind the curtain.
A fixed Simploo Original separating toilet avoids the need for a conventional cassette or chemicals. Liquid is plumbed directly into the grey water system, while solids are collected in a lined bin and ventilated to the outside using a silent fan. The solids container can be emptied after approximately 5–7 days.
Heating & Hot Water
The upgraded Truma D4e provides both heating and hot water, running directly from the main diesel tank or from electricity via hook-up or the main battery.
The system can be controlled from the display or app, with timers allowing the heating to come on before bed or hot water to be ready for a morning shower.
During warmer weather, hot water can be operated without heating the van. With the system running on diesel or electricity, there is no need to search for LPG fill-ups.
Substantial Off-Grid Electrical System
Claude has an impressive 15.5kWh Fogstar battery and 640W of roof-mounted solar, providing substantial electrical independence without gas.

Everything can be monitored from the main screen, including the water tank levels.
The electrical capacity is sufficient to run normal household appliances such as a hairdryer. Claude can remain off-grid for a week in winter and continuously through summer.
Water & Outdoor Living
Claude carries 100 litres of fresh water, typically providing two people with around four to five days of use, including daily showers.
There is a 100 litre wastewater tank, with level sensors on both tanks so you can see when they need filling or emptying.
The grey water tank has a remote ball valve, allowing it to be emptied at an appropriate grate at the push of a button.
Outside, the Thule 4-metre awning creates a useful sheltered living space. It can be fully extended in around a minute, with the additional hold-down kit taking only a couple more minutes to set up.
There is an external hot and cold shower point for rinsing off after the beach or cleaning muddy equipment. An external power point can be used for appliances, induction cooking or a SUP pump, while exterior lighting provides useful illumination around the van.
